Emma Jane Trembly, 92, of Arlington, MA, went home to be with the Lord Saturday March 2nd after a brief stay at Neville Center in Cambridge MA.. She was born Emma Jane West, daughter of Frank and Nancy Weston West of Hancock NH on February 14, 1921. She was the granddaughter of Emma Coolidge Weston, founder of the NH Assoc. of the Blind. After graduating from Hancock High School, Emma Jane was employed as secretary of the author Mary Tudor Gray of Boston and Florida; secretary of the NH Society of Tourism in St. Petersburg, Florida and its festival queen in 1941; and employed by West Coast Title Company in St. Petersburg. Returning to New England at the outbreak of World War II, she entered The New England Conservatory of Music, graduating as an organist. She was the organist for the First United Presbyterian Church in Cambridge for more than 60 years; she also served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. There she met Gray Trembly, from Terra Alta, West Virginia.  They were married June 14, 1952 almost 48 years until Gray’s passing Easter Sunday 2000. Emma Jane assisted Gray, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 43, for more than 50 years. Emma Jane was a long time volunteer at Neville Manor of Cambridge.  Neither rain nor snow would deter her from her appointed task of watering flowers. She also played piano at weekly services in both Neville Manor and Park Avenue Nursing Center. Emma Jane was predeceased by her brother Elijah James West, formerly of Manchester and Hancock, NH. Emma Jane is already missed by her daughter Anna Carter and her husband John of Peterborough NH and their four children: Sarah Carter and her husband Mark Carroll; Rachel Chumbley, her husband Brent and their son Joseph; David and Angelina. Emma Jane is also missed by her son Edward and his wife Betty, who played a pretty intense game of Scrabble with her two days before her passing, and their son Micah.

Family and friends are invited to the First United Presbyterian Church, 1418 Cambridge St., Cambridge MA on Thursday, March 7, from 4 to 8 p.m., and the funeral will be held on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. Burial will be next to Gray in the Terra Alta Cemetery, Terra Alta, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church’s Handicapped Access Fund (FUPC, PO Box 398089, Cambridge MA 02139).
